Hello 3rd Trimester- 28 Weeks

I’ve been meaning to start writing these updates since… well, the beginning. So to say I’m slacking may be a slight understatement. But better late than never, right?

Last Friday, July 3rd, I hit the 28 week mark which means I am officially in the 3rd trimester!! Only 12 weeks to go give or take. I was thinking back to when I was pregnant with Makenzie and little did I know I was going to go at 36 weeks. It makes me slightly nervous because I still feel like I have a lot to do with regards to BK#2. My mom is equally nervous because Brian and I are planning on going to the Packer game at 36 week as well. We may have to play that one by ear.  🙂


How far along? 28 weeks!

Total weight gain: Weeeell, despite working out 4 times per week, I’ve been steadily gaining each week. As of today I am up 23 lbs. With Makenzie, I had gained 43 lbs by week 36, 7 lbs of which I gained between week 35 and 36. Thank you pre-eclampsia. My OB told me my total weight gain should be between 25 and 35 lbs and that she wasn’t worried about my gain considering how much I am still working out and lifting. I lost it pretty quickly the first time so I am hoping this one is the same. It’s hard to tell on how I am carrying. Initially I thought I was carrying lower than I did with Makenzie but when I do a comparison between 28 weeks with Makenzie and 28 weeks with this one, I look higher. My OB did a fundal height measurement at my last appointment but I forgot to ask what it was. Duh. I’m assuming all was well if she didn’t say anything though.

Workouts: Still going 4 times per week. I usually do 30 minutes of cardio whether it is spinning, stair machine, or the elliptical. Sadly my running had to stop at 19 weeks because of terrible tailbone pain. After cardio I usually try to get in 25 minutes of weights and then 10 minutes of abs and stretching. Usually I am at a 600-700 calorie burn after my workout. It’s better than nothing so I will take it.

Maternity Clothes: Luckily for me working from home usually means yoga pants or something comfortable so I don’t have to get too dressed up. If we do go somewhere, like the racetrack as an example, I am wearing leggings and a tunic, a maxi dress, or barely squeezing into my non maternity jeans. Ever heard of Stitch Fix? It’s this great service that you pay $20 per shipment and a personal stylist will send you clothes based on the info you filled out in your personal profile. You get 5 items, you pick the dollar amount range you want your items to be in and your stylist will pick out what she thinks you will like. You can also create Pinterest boards of clothes and accessories that you like and your styles can check those out and try to match to them as best as possible. You have 3 days to try on what was sent to you and decide what you want to keep and what you want to send back. It’s pretty sweet! Click Stitch Fix if you are interested.  Since I only have 12 weeks or less to go, I scheduled my next Fix for October. I don’t need any more maternity clothes at this point.

Stretch Marks: Thank you, mom, Grandma, Great Grandma and so on. Since these are usual a results of genetics, I still don’t have one. I didn’t get any when pregnant with Makenzie either so, fingers crossed it stays that way. I still lather up after each shower with Cocoa Butter lotion though. It doesn’t hurt!

Sleep: I can’t complain. I’m a pretty sound sleeper. The last few nights though I’ve been waking up to go to the bathroom more than usual. Two nights ago I was up 4 times but last night only one. Right now I am fighting a pretty terrible head cold and cough so I slept in the guest bedroom so Brian could get a decent night sleep without me hacking in his face all night long. I’d say about once a week I will wake up around 5 and be wide-awake for the rest of the morning. I have a lot on my mind, new baby and new Rodan and Fields adventure. We’ll blame those two things for the excited insomnia.

Food cravings: The same as it has been. Honeycrisp apples cut up smothered in extra crunchy peanut butter topped with mini chocolate chips. I’m also craving beer. Probably because it’s summer and it’s hot but I’m looking forward to my first ice-cold sip of beer after baby is born.

Movement: A ton! Even with this anterior placenta this baby is a moving machine. Usually around 8p this one wants to rock and roll. I just lay on the couch and watch my belly move around like an alien has taken it over.

Gender: Still Team Green but I suspect boy. Brian and I went to a 4D ultrasound last week and at first he wasn’t interested in going because he really didn’t want the tech to accidently show us any goods but the tech also happened to be the owner and she talked him off the ledge and promised she wouldn’t show us anything. Brian and I both think this one is a boy. I actually told my parents and Brian yesterday I would be in shock if the doctor says, “It’s a GIRL!” I’m so confident that I am tempted to hang up and put away all the boy clothes my sister gave me from her two pregnancies that resulted in boys.

Labor Signs:

Blood Pressure: 95/62. Which is good. I’ve been monitoring it closely. It was at 30 weeks that I suddenly started swelling and showing signs of the pre-e with my first pregnancy. So far I can still see my anklebones and the swelling in my hands has been pretty normal.

Symptoms: Braxton hicks. I’ve been getting these frequently since about 20 weeks but my OB checked me at my last appointment and I am happy to say I am still very closed and not showing any signs of labor just yet.

Belly button in or out? I have an outie! I didn’t with Makenzie but with this pregnancy it popped out pretty quickly! I’m still wearing my belly button ring but maybe not for too much longer.

Wedding rings on or off? Uh, this makes me sad. I love my rings. But my fingers just seem to naturally swell when I am pregnant. I had to take them off pretty early with Makenzie and right now I am only able to wear the band. Having both on really makes my finger swollen and I don’t want them to get stuck.

Happy or Moody most of the time? Happy but tired and this head cold is working my last nerve. I can feel my usual high amount of patience dwindling away.

Other: I’m fairly sure you could look in my phone and find text messages to my sister, my mom, or Brian that say, “Well, I peed my pants again today.” No lie. I cough, I pee. I sneeze, I pee. I go to the bathroom and 3 minutes later, I cough or sneeze and I pee. Ay. It’s annoying and new. I never experienced this with Makenzie.
